I have a buddy who got an $80k matching scholly to Boalt and who firmly committed last week. However, my friend is STILL on two other waitlists (HYS and YLS), even though the terms of his firm committment were to remove himself from all other waitlists.

Can he get in trouble? More specifically, can he lose his scholly?

In case he can get in trouble, as a friend, I feel like I should say something. Thoughts?

TIA!

I'm guessing Dean Tom's appeal to integrity fell on deaf ears. It's folks like this that put Boalt's no deposit plan at risk. [/rant]

That said, I think it's a low risk gamble. How will they find out? I think the bigger risk is with his/her WLs if they report to schools about the commit. Barring some other disclosure, UCB would only find out after receiving an offer elsewhere.

Which is why I think they should have a bounty system. Anyone reporting such shenanigans would get 50% of the scholarship amount, regardless of need. What did you say his/her name was again? :P

Well, I guess the only way they'd find out is if he got off a waitlist and then withdrew from Boalt. Not sure what'd happen then, though.

(being in this thread makes me sad :( )

TheNerdProject wrote:Not sure if any of you are college football fans but Berkeley's team is in most analysts' pre-season Top 15 nationally this year.

For any of you interested in making it to some games, the following is the link for student season tickets, which are only $84! --LinkRemoved-- . I'm jumping on this deal even though I'll probably only make it to 2-3 games (and the Stanford game at Palo Alto, aka "The Big Game"). For 50-yard line seats, possibly front row if you get there early, it's a great deal!

There are some pretty good matchups at home this season, including games against Maryland, USC, Oregon State and Arizona. Below is the complete schedule (home games in bold). Sorry if this post annoys anyone but I'm like "Fever Pitch" for sports, especially college football.

GO BEARS!

DATE OPPONENT TIME (PST)
9/05 Maryland 7:00 PM
9/12 Eastern Washington TBA
9/19 @ Minnesota TBA
9/26 @ Oregon 12:30 PM
10/03 USC 5:00 PM
10/17 @ UCLA TBA
10/24 Washington State TBA
10/31 @ Arizona State TBA
11/07 Oregon State TBA
11/14 Arizona TBA

11/21 @ Stanford TBA
12/05 @ Washington TBA
I'll definitely be going to games.......in the alumni section.

Thanks for your responses. I had read somewhere on TLS that schools at some point received a list of their confirmed students from LSAC and that this list would indicate whether or not the student still had active applications outstanding. Is there any truth to this? Thanks again!

Who's down for an "Orientation Day TLS Crepe Meetup" on August 12th??
Consider this your official invite from me and iamlife1001. :D

Edit - I called. Candi is out of the office until Monday. The guy I talked to thought my Grad PLUS wasn't put up yet because of some regents of california meeting about the Grad PLUS rates. He said they should appear by the end of next week.

Also, the SLR - If you are curious, call the number given on BearFacts SLR page - they can tell you if it is processed, and FYI, mine was.
Not to burst a hopeful bubble, but wouldn't that have delayed the process for all of us? If not, then maybe it's just because you are claiming in-state, which is why you'd be affected by the regents meeting?

I hope yours shows up soon!!! Waiting is not fun. :(

FWIW, my SO's grad plus loans just showed up on both her "award summary" page on Bearfacts and her offer letter. So Amy's may not be showing up because of her in-state status (my SO is OOS).

Is anyone else on here in-state and still waiting?

Sorry Amy! :(

Yeah, he told me the majority of the grad plus loans hadn't been processed. I really don't know how true that is, as it seems like several people have had theirs processed here. He said he was making a note of it in my file and e-mailing Candi about it. I think if it still isn't showing up by next Friday, I will call again.
I predict it's just because you're in state. You might have to wait longer than most of us, but think of the sweet discount you're going to get off that total cost of attendance!!!

If I'm town, I may have to crash it. I'm developing a sweets addiction at my summer job, where one of the bosses tries to force memo assignments and pies/cupcakes down my throat in equal measure. The boss who can see what I'm doing during the day had jury duty this afternoon, so I probably ended up spending more time looking for the forks than actually working.

Amy (or should I say "Dr. Amy") and anyone remotely intersted in the SLRs. I talked with a woman who sounded quite frazzled and she simply said they have thousands to get through and they are plugging away, but we may not get formal notification before fees get posted to our CARS account sometime in July. (I should have asked for a more specific date. HUMINT fail, sorry). She said if the wrong amount posts, call them and they'll take care of it.

Not a great answer, but at the end of the day, all that really matters is what shows up on the bill, I guess.

Considering that we have no idea what time orientation ends, how do you all suggest setting this crepe excursion up? Will we be getting copies of our schedules way in advance, or should we just agree to find each other in Cafe Zeb somehow when the day's over? :D

Sorry Amy! :(
Thanks NP. Also, the bolded question is of interest. ;) At least I am being considering in state....
I'm in-state and waiting. Well, I'm waiting because I can't prove I'm in-state until I can get back to the USA and gather all the stuff they want to prove I'm in-state. I'll still be dealing with this stuff in August, so I wouldn't worry too much if stuff isn't up just yet.

Also, I'm in for the crepe meet up.

Did we get official award letters in the mail? As in, award letters on official Berkeley Law letterhead? I don't think they sent out letters, right? I remember just getting the email. Could anyone verify this? Thanks. And is the Offer Letter section on BearFacts supposed to have award letters for grants? I still can't access my award letter on BearFacts, just the award summary page [it still says "Sorry, there are no Official or Preliminary Awards to view at this time"]. Berkeley Intl Office wants award letters printed on letterhead stationery, among a number of things they want.

Yep. I'm on my phone and can't link. Recommend you go to the "TLS Class of 2012" thread first page, it'll be there.

When I get home, I'll edit this post and put the link here.

PS. Why the Hoya tar? Hop on the bandwagon and start representing Boalt!
