Come to think of it, I also have a financial aid related question...

On my student center page. It lists the full amount of stafford loans as pending loans. Problem is, I only want to take a portion of the offered stafford loans. Does that pending status mean that I am taking all of what they are offering me? Is there way to take only a portion of the offered loan, or is this something that Karla does with students as we get closer to the school year? Thanks.

Also, I have yet to receive the hard copies of those cases for orientation. Anyone else have the some problem? Thanks.

I haven't received copies either but I've also been moving a lot and usps hasn't caught up yet. There's a link to an electronic copy right?

yeah..im pretty sure that means you're taking all of them..
if i recall correctly, you're supposed to let them know how much you want to accept..

ok..just checked the email..

"If you would like to decline any portion of the Stafford Loans, please send us a signed letter outlining the portion that you would like to accept and the portion that is declined. Make sure that you list monetary amounts and refer to the loan name directly. This letter must be received no later than 8/1/2009."

better fax it to make sure it gets there on time! good luck!

It says my grad plus loan promissary note needs to be done, but I could swear I did that two weeks ago. I will check my file later and see whether or not I did . . .

I have the same issue. I filled out another MPN just to be sure, but I'm sure I did it a month ago. I emailed Karla, but I haven't heard anything yet. I'm assuming that this is somewhat normal, but I'm still a little worried. Keep me posted if things change and I'll do the same.

FWIW, mine has been there and never disappeared in student center, and I'm headed into being a 2L.

should i shoot for collegetown, really close to campus? a friend's girlfriend who went to Cornell UG mentioned University City....

I'm confused and don't know diddly about the buslines...my first inclination is to go oncampus if there is any availability (bc i could just accept that sight unseen and in terms of convenience, well, it's pretty convenient), or alternately to try to get something that is a very close walk in the immediate vicinity (studio or a one bedroom).

It kinda depends on what you're into. Collegetown is very close to the law school so that would be convenient, but it seems to be somewhat more expensive and it's a busy place, so maybe not ideal if you're not a fan of people. The farther you get from campus, the cheaper housing tends to be. There are quiet residential neighborhoods if that's what you're into. If you don't have a car, you probably want to make sure that your housing is near a bus line.

I'm moving into my apartment on Saturday, but for some reason I've yet to motivate myself to start packing, probably because this all still seems really unreal. But yes, I should start packing soon. Damn.

it is an amazing starting point.. and how i found my apartment...
but to be honest..it's pretty late in the game, so im not sure how many places close by are left.. well..at least those that are pretty affordable..
i would definitely say that that list is your best shot..

Anyone doing the orientation on the 17th know in what form the stipend will come and when we should expect it?

No clue but during ASD I received a travel subsidy and they put a check into the binder they gave me...so I think it's likely the AOP stipend will come the same way...

Apparently my credit is still being approved for the Grad Plus Loan...is this a bad thing? My credit should be decent but I didn't have any loans for UG and that could be why it's taking so long...is anyone having the same issue?
