I'm trying to make sure one way or another on this--is Yale's health insurance mandatory? I'm still covered under my parents' plan, so I could maybe save the money I would be spending on YLS's plan....?

I was just filling out health form stuff today (I'm leaving the country Wednesday and not coming back until a few days before school starts, so I'm frantically trying to get everything ready). I'm pretty sure you can waive coverage if you already have insurance.

If you go to http://www.yale.edu/uhs/students/newstu ... _grad.html (the Yale Health Services Forms for New Graduates and Professional students webpage), and scroll down to "Other", there's a waiver submission for students who want to waive coverage. The waiver webpage itself says it's only open from June 15 to September 15, but they do give a number that you can call.

Hope this helps :D

Yup - you got it. :) You just have to give them info about which insurance plan you *will* be covered by (your parents', etc.).

Rabbit or other current YLS students - how is the Yale health plan? Is it good coverage? How does it work, exactly - is there one plan everyone gets or are there different levels or add-on plans you can get? If so, what level of coverage do you recommend?

As far as I know, it's all just one level of coverage [I've been on my parents' plan this past year, so I don't really have personal experience with the Yale plan]. I haven't heard any real complaints about coverage (but it apparently takes forever to get a regular eye exam).

One cool thing: even if you're not getting coverage from Yale's plan, you can still go to the Yale health center and get basic treatments (a regular check-up, if you have the flu, women get annual gynecological appointments, etc.) without paying anything. They can also refer you to specialists (including their own) in the New Haven area.

One of the best things about no grades: today, I spent about an hour considering what sport club I'm going to join at Yale in the fall :)

Why yes, my summer is THAT boring. :)
I spent the last hour and a half since your post reading through the course list and planning my schedule for the spring. I even emailed one of the professors about his course. So ... I feel like my summer may rival yours in terms of boredom.

I'm a bit bummed that we will not be able to take any of those classes offered in the fall. I should not even have looked at them. I'm so excited to start law school!

Thanks for posting this. I'm excited about the 1L classes, but it's nice to have the chance to look at what's in store for the spring.

For those in the Boston area, I am meeting a couple of YLS OLs for drinks early next week. PM me if you're interested; I'd love to meet or see anyone in the class.

To others using AccessGroup: Did you recently receive any notification regarding signing your MPN? I just did yesterday, and the thing says that I apparently haven't specified my loan amount (although I'm pretty sure I did)--is this something on Yale's end at this point? Anyone else having issues with this? I figure that I'll look at it on Monday more in depth.

Oh esteemed Rabbit, purveyor of knowledge, any thoughts on this? Since it's summer, I guess it's a little harder to get the scuttlebutt... :)

If so, this is an interesting pick - Post has an extremely long institutional history at Berkeley before coming to Yale fairly recently. The past three Deans (Calabresi, Kronman and Koh) all had much, much longer histories at Yale.

I am guessing that e-mail addresses and NetIDs should be out any day now.. all of the documentation says either early or mid-June.

Regarding Yale's health coverage, should I be subtracting $1800 from my "basic budget" if I'm not going to be using Yale's coverage? Just trying to figure out how much I should be requesting in private loans..

Also, a question for current Yalies: Did the $16,000 figure ("single student budget") roughly match your actual budget? I realize answers to this question will vary based on the student, but any help is appreciated.

I called customer service a few days ago about this, and they said that they actually just needed reference information...so I filled that out online and got an error message. On call number two to customer service, they tried to fill it out and got the same error message. They put in an IT request, but I just checked again and it's still not working. Maybe you'll have better luck..

Update- I believe that you cannot e-sign your MPN without having completed the entrance interviews. Now that we have our NetIDs, you can complete the interviews, and then sign your MPN.

Actually, I signed my MPN a couple of days ago (I had a similar problem regarding the references, but it cleared up), but I still haven't done the entrance interview.
