The pics from this year's pageant were hilarious.
Mr. Wolverine sounds pretty interesting! I was at the SFF Auction during March Preview Weekend, but all of the seats were taken so we went outside and just hung around the concessions table.Alexandria wrote:No, but we have some other really fun events. I would say the closest thing to "Law Revue" is Mr. Wolverine (which is a "pageant" but more about being funny than hot). Miss America 2008 was in it this year. For real. One of the guys sent her an email asking her to be his escort, and she said yes.
The other biggest event is the SFF Auction. There are faculty auctioneers and huge attendance and particpation. Some really awesome things are auctioned off.
AA is bike friendly, bring your bike. There is the best law school rock band on the planet here!pluckyparakeet wrote:hey guys, glad to be part of Mich 2012!
I just have a couple of questions.
Is it easy to bike around AA? (Should I bring my street bike?)
Also, what kind of music groups are available to law students? I realize there's one a capella group for the law school that focuses on modern works, but are there any choirs that we can join that focus on classical repertoire?
Thanks in advance to anyone who knows...
There are a few choirs for non-music majors that you can probably participate in:pluckyparakeet wrote:hey guys, glad to be part of Mich 2012!

I'm looking to do some music too. I play trumpet, so is there anywhere to practice? I feel like people wouldn't like it if I played in the Lawyer's Club.PKSebben wrote:AA is bike friendly, bring your bike. Depending on what you play, I would eat it up.green wrote: I feel like people wouldn't like it if I played in the Lawyer's Club.
The band has typically not been competitive, but we have like a billion guitarists. I play saxophone & guitar. Get in touch with touch with me when the semester starts and we can see who is returning. You can obviously come and play trumpet at least. Add in a trombone player and we're officially Chicago or the Blues Bros. band.green wrote:I'm looking to do some music too. I play trumpet, so is there anywhere to practice? I also do guitar, but not as much. How competitive is it to get into the band?

Oh, I'm all about jazz/blues/funk...I was lead trumpet of my university jazz ensemble for four years and I had my own "Tower of Power" type group, so you can definitely count me in. Are the practice rooms available to anyone?PKSebben wrote:The band has typically not been competitive, but we have like a billion guitarists. I play saxophone & guitar. Not sure what your style is, but some of the guys were talking about putting together a jazz / blues combo. There are some pretty rad musicians around -- you'd really be surprised at the talent level in law school.
There are a bunch of practice rooms all over -- north campus & east dorms both have rooms that used.
Yes to both the practice rooms (I've used them) and to the show. You also might be able to use the piano practice rooms in the union. I can't see why you wouldn't be able to play in those. They're available for all students for piano practice -- no reason to think you'd get booted out for bringing your trumpet in.green wrote:

Also, someone asked about a comedy show or something like that...I heard from a current student that they are trying to put together a musical for the fall (kind of like UVA's Libel Show). Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah -- I found the townhome was super super tough to heat and cool, but I'm not sure if that was just my unit or not.awesomepossum wrote:yeah, that's about right.
One thing though. They put in the free wifi after I had my own internet. The apt wifi is pretty slow so I just kept my own internet.
The amount you'll spend on utilities is obviously pretty cyclical though.

mine is actually not bad. I feel like I get a lot of heat from the adjacent apts.

You just ask for one. You tell them your reason, and if they're good with it, they give you one.
You also have to sign a paper saying you won't apply to any law schools in the meantime.
Now there's a charge.
