Columbia: Grade Requests

Post by a.shoshana » Mon Nov 30, 2009 2:33 pm

It seems on LSN that last December, Columbia asked a couple people send their fall semester grades as soon as they were available.

Does anyone know how often this happens? Is it just for borderline candidates? Only a couple people mentioned it happening... does Columbia do this a lot??

(It's my first choice, and i'm neurotic because I landed an evil professor this semester who doesnt give out A's.)

From what I know about last year, it was pretty much completely random (or at least from our viewpoint): people with high GPA's, mediocre GPA's, low GPA's, anybody.

I specifically remember somebody with a 3.9+ getting one.

Am I wrong in saying that the majority of applicants don't get them? What do we know about the amount of requests sent out?

(thanks, helm, for being a columbia expert.)

It certainly appears that the majority does not get a request, but I don't think I could safely be any more specific than that.

I just received a request and have a 3.9+. Probably safe to say a mediocre GPA is not the only possible requisite.

just sent in my fall grades. one caveat, however, i applied ED, so I think i was a borderline candidate (i.e. did not have a 3.9+ GPA). Hope to hear back soon
