Question about NYU Application / AnBryce Scholarship
Hey guys:
1) I am applying to NYU. I've got the application all ready to go except for the AnBryce essay.
2) Should I submit the application even though my AnBryce essay isn't ready to go yet? I want to put it through a thorough revision process because I know how competitive the AnBryce program is.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

From what I was told by an NYU rep at a law fair, they don't review any scholarships until after you are admitted. You do have to have the materials in by Jan 1st, but I would think the extra time put into the essay would be worth it. She also said that they view those scholarship applications seperatly from your lsat, gpa, and admissions numers so a 120 has the same chance as a 180. I kind of doubt that last part though.
Good luck, and the only reason I am trying to be helpful is because I am going after a different NYU scholarship

I think they look at the essays very carefully for these scholarships, so I would be as careful as you can with it.Jericwithers wrote:From what I was told by an NYU rep at a law fair, they don't review any scholarships until after you are admitted. Does only one person get each scholarship?

Depends on the scholarship. I think a few get the AnBryce -- based on the picture in the NYU viewbook.JollyGreenGiant wrote:Does only one person get each scholarship?

Anyone know what they mean by 'among the first' for graduate study in the AnBryce scholly?
My mom just got her master's while I was in high school... wondering if I can count.

If your mom got her master's, then you do not qualify for the Anbryce. You have to be the FIRST in your family that will have completed a graduate level degree... Lol a simple "If X, then not Y."sibley wrote:Anyone know what they mean by 'among the first' for graduate study in the AnBryce scholly?

well, if you have siblings, one could still be the first in the family for the graduate degree. depends on the interpretation of family i guessSnoopy1216 wrote:If your mom got her master's, then you do not qualify for the Anbryce. I'm an only child, and it said 'among the first.' Considering my mom didn't get her master's until I was in high school I'd say they'd consider me if they were in a decent mood. But... didn't want to do the essay. So submitted without.

mean. she should have waited a few years. Not like I would have gotten it anyway, though. I'm sure there are 10 people in similar situations who are much more impressive than me.sharthree wrote:Umm...actually I specifically called and they outlined the parameters of the scholarship. They exact phrase was "the first in your immediate family" to attend a graduate program. So no matter when your mother got the degree, you are still not the first in your family.
