Double major on resume?
Usually you'd put
B.A., History or whatever after the name of your university. With a double major, is it something like
B.A., Political Science and Economics
I don't list them seperately because I was just awarded one degree, right?

Re: Double major on resume?
On my resume it goes as:
B.A., History, Economics
not
B.A., History and Economics
The reason being at my school (and I assume others) there are majors like "Economics and Mathematics" or "Physics and Philosophy" which are single majors, despite having two subjects in the name. The comma for me makes clear that the majors are separate and not part of some integrated "History and Economics" major.

What do you mean? Double majors get two degrees. Hence the double.
On second thought, I guess it could be one degree if they are in the same discipline as you mentioned.

The way imchuck puts is a little less confusing, but both work.
Just don't list them seperately.
Just don't list them seperately.
Eh. I would certainly list a B.A. and B.E. seperately for organizational purposes (and just because...jesus), but a double major is still just a double major. You take less electives, maybe an extra class or two. Its great, but I think it would look silly to try to sell it as something more.rkdwotjr01 wrote:What do you mean? Double majors get two degrees. I would list them separately even if you only received one diploma that lists them both. Looks more impressive and prevents people from thinking you got a single major in a topic like "History and Economics."

I don't know. Its not like you're take twice the number of core requirements, just more focused electives. I think listing them seperate looks more silly than anything else. If people see two BA's listed from the same school, they know its a double major, and then you've taken up extra space you could have devoted to details about work experience and such.LawandOrder wrote:I would list them separately even if you only received one diploma that lists them both. Theres nothing wrong with:
B.A. History and Economics (Double Major)

As long as you distinguish. I'd personally use a comma, so as not to confuse anyone...Pearalegal wrote:I don't know. Re: Double major on resume?
I'd go by what's on the transcript - some schools (like mine) say I got one degree (B.A.) with two majors attached to it. I also prefer a comma.

B.A. Political Science, Philosophy (Double Major)
That is how I did it. I'm pretty sure a traditional double major is considered only one degree with two majors.

Re: Double major on resume?
Double major is different from double degree. My wife got a double degree (BS and BA) and was required to take something like 40 more credit hours than what you'd normally have to have in order to graduate. She also has two separate diplomas. Double majors just get one diploma with both majors listed.rkdwotjr01 wrote:What do you mean? Double majors get two degrees. Hence the double.

I have two degrees and my school calls it a double major. I was required to take all the necessary courses for both majors, but was able to share the electives.
Would you call this a double degree or a double major? dual major?
I put it as a double major on my resume b/c my school cause a double major.

Re: Double major on resume?
My wife was simply double majoring as well, but it just so happened one was a BS and the other was a BA. She didn't find out until junior year that it made a difference. Then the university told her to actually get both degrees, she had to take 40 or so more credits in addition to the normal graduation requirements for both majors. Luckily, being an engineering major, she was already ahead quite a bit on credit hours, so she added a couple more courses each semester of her senior year and now she gets to hang two diplomas on the wall versus my one (soon to be three after she defends her Masters' thesis).rkdwotjr01 wrote:Question:mxc wrote:Double major is different from double degree.
