do i have to go to law school to take the Bar?

Post by Sonius » Mon Jan 19, 2009 8:34 pm

New York State, Illinois, and maybe California is states to which I am considering Bar admissions.

Is law school necessary?

Took the December LSAT, btw, so I'm in the same boat as many of you, lol!

It's a valid question, there's no need for people to be rude..

Thanks for the warm welcome though,

Just because no one had an answer to your question doesnt mean they're rude. Look it up on the state bars websites.

California still has a baby bar/apprenticeship system. Other than knowing it exists, I don't know much more about it. I believe it's rare these days for people to go that route.

I know you don't need a law school to take the bar in Vermont, but I don't know about other states.

That's kind of helpful, I suppose, but I'm not sure how it applies to my situation and specific question in re: law school <---> bar

btw, there was over 10 views to my thread, according to the view-indicator, dreman510. That's why I raised my voice, not because anyone said anything explicitly mean or rude.

To the poster that responded with Vermont: loot at my OP (original post), I did not say Vermont..

+1. People who give input/advice are doing you a favor. Dont be rude just because youre impatient.

I'm guessing you'd like to skip law school because your LSAT might have been better, no? LR: Just because over 10 people viewed your post and didn't reply doesn't mean they were being rude. Did it cross your mind that perhaps they didn't know the answer, like yours truly?

is correct about Cali. They have rules that allow you to study underneath an attorney. It's how law students used to be taught. It's the apprenticeship method.

There are LOTS of downfalls to this method.
1. The FYLSE aka Baby Bar--google it!
2. You can only practice in California (for a limited time and then some states will let you practice in their state, each state is different_
3. After the FYLSE you must still pass the Cali bar which is commonly known to be the most difficult in the nation, and I believe you can only practice Federal cases.

So...you some options, but you should weigh them carefully.

And I don't know specifically about Vermont, but a quick trip to google should clear up some of these questions for you

Agreed. Would you rather everyone post their response, even if they have nothing useful to add? And if you rechecked your thread, then that counts in the View Count.

Wow, the only person I see being rude here is you, especially to the one person who was trying to help you.

Seriously, look it up on the bar's website. However, good luck finding a job. I know if you were my lawyer I certainly wouldn't want you writing any of my appeals with grammer like that.

Interesting (this is in re: to the helpful poster). I may not go with California after all (i've also heard bad things about people being rude, not unlike this forum).

I think maybe you should try another website if you dont like the answers here. Clearly we're not up to your standards. I hope they throw you a nice welcome party.

Learn how to conjugate your verbs, then worry about the bar.

how does one quote with the quote feature? this board is not the most user-friendly.

in any regard, to unigolfer: :?:

and do dreman510: People weren't responding yet looking at my thread..ignoring my questions implicitly implied that it was illegitimate or invalid or both. It was a genuine question that could apply to several many people considering it's...a ....law...school....website!

You know who else is going to be rude to you? Hiring partners at firms when you try to apply without a JD. Good luck with that one.

quoting jaen78: "You know who else is going to be rude to you? Hiring partners at firms when you try to apply without a JD. Good luck with that one." end quote.

I have the capability and option of begining my own firm practice. Good luck with the "what are some other possibilities" section of the LSAT. -- for those condescending individuals, that was meant as hyperbole

Again, people might look but not have anything useful to add. Just because they didnt answer doesnt mean they think its necessarily a dumb question. And just because people here are pre-law/in law school, doesnt mean they know the answer to every law-related to question, especially one that does not apply to most people here, since this is for law or future law students. Your question implies that you do not want to take that path. So chill out.

No person would hire you with an attitude and grammer like yours, and don't you think CLIENTS would want to know your credentials to represent them? Are you going to say you just decided to take the state bar one day, so that makes you qualified? Haha, good luck with that.

I'm not sure if the OP is a flame, an irrogant SOB, or just an idiot. Perhaps all three.

Anyway, IMHO he has no business posting here until he learns how this site works.

Is this guy even for real? I think he's just trying to get a rise out of us.

If people here were really being rude, they would be going "f&#k off, you stupid crybaby" or something. I almost felt like being rude to you myself once I read your posts.

Welcome to TLS.

Edit: Why did I even post a reply? dang.
