Ohio State Moritz

Post by mehulmalik2003 » Mon Mar 17, 2025 4:40 pm

Thoughts on Ohio State? Is it a good law school for private law, contracts law, public law, Big Law? How many graduates stay in Ohio and how many get jobs in big cities, like New York or Chicago? Is it a household name in the Midwest or Northeast?

You are referring to THE Ohio State University?

In seriousness, it's a solid but not elite school. Like other schools in its category, Biglaw will be a longshot in generally but possible for those close in the top 1/4 or so of their classes. Ohio is a relatively small biglaw market and most out of state firms will be focusing on T14 schools outside their local market. But if you want to stay in Ohio, it's a solid choice if the financial aspects work for you.

You should generally ignore specialties when applying to law school except possibly comparing similarly-ranked schools. Outside the T14 and maybe T20ish, it's mostly about regional influence and cost.
