Breaking ED agreement

Post by lawstudentxxx » Thu Dec 12, 2024 4:36 pm

for many reasons which I don’t wanna disclose here I don’t know if I will be able to attend the school I EDed. I’ve been told early decision acceptances are very very binding and circulated to all law schools, which puts me in a tough position. If I continued applying to more law schools how badly would that jeopardize my acceptance. :/ I feel like I’m in such a tough position. I of course want very badly to attend the law school I EDed, that is why I confidently early decisioned. The issue is I might not be able to, and I can’t guarantee they’d be understanding of my position.

Is it possible to defer matriculation for a year? Many law schools will allow that if life circumstances arise. Otherwise, you simply attach an addenda explaining your circumstances when you apply to law school down the road. I doubt you will be blackballed if you have a solid story to tell.

Almost all schools will allow you to defer for one year. Some won’t even ask for a reason; others will. If you want some advice on how to tactfully convey it—feel free to PM me. But an issue may be that they may reconsider any scholarship they offered, which may be subject to change. You want to make sure that doesn’t change to extent possible. But no schools will force you attend if you can’t for various reasons say financial or personal. They don’t want a student who has something else going on and set you up for failure because that will hurt employment stats.
