Taking CC courses to boost GPA

Post by subsistencefarmer » Wed Nov 20, 2024 6:10 pm

Hello! I'm a sophomore at an Ivy majoring in Econ. Currently have a GPA of 3.95, but it looks like it's gonna take a bit of a hit this sem (down to 3.8X) because of a pesky class. While I'll do my best to swing a B+, I'm really keen on attending a T10 law school and was wondering if LS admissions would look unfavorably on an applicant with my profile taking CC courses to boost my LSAC GPA. Thanks!

I doubt they would specifically look down on it, but I imagine it may be easier to take a few easier classes at your current school. You'd need a lot of credit hours to materially change your LSAC GPA, which would be a big pain. You really don't want to spend all summer for the rest of college taking filler CC classes just for a tenth on your GPA. 3.8 is high enough that it's not going to positively exclude you from anywhere.
