How to Maximize Chances for NYU or GULC Tax LLM?

Post by eventorproduct » Sat Dec 05, 2020 9:24 pm

I’m 6.5 years out of law school. Been working at a smallish litigation boutique in NYC - some health care law, smattering of regulatory stuff. Went to Ivy undergrad and then T20 law school - but I slacked off and graduated with a 3.2. Non-law review journal.

Looking to make a pivot to tax law, I like how tax implications keeps coming up in what I do.

So, 6.5 years out. I know I can write a good personal statement. I think I can get pretty good LORs from employers. NYU seems to want an academic letter...welp, I didn’t do so hot in tax class but I aced Fed Courts, hope the prof remembers me...

So yeah. That’s the thing. I only took Federal Income Tax in law school. And I...got a C+. Yeah. Was it hard for me? No, I just slacked, and had a bad prof. So. How to massage this, if possible? Any advice would be appreciated.
