Why x essays

Post by Onta1998 » Wed Nov 11, 2020 10:52 am

I know there have been a ton of threads discussing why x essays. However, I wanted to get a general sense of if it would be too generic to discuss employment statistics in the essay. Essentially, I would bring up my desire to work in corporate law after graduation and how the school's specific numbers would allow me to maximize my goals. My entire essay won't be focused on this topic but I was planning on putting a paragraph that ties into the other reasons I want to attend the school.
The why x essay is specifically going to Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Michigan, UPenn, and Georgetown.

It's fine to cite to these schools' employment statistics in a "Why [X]" essay, but that shouldn't be the only thing you're talking about.

Two other notes: Don't bother submitting this to Columbia, and apply more broadly across the T13 if you want biglaw.

If your Why X essay is a form letter that could go to any of 6 law schools then it's guaranteed to be a bad Why X.

While "I want to go here because you place a lot of students in biglaw" is true, it's also lame. You probably won't be "docked" for saying something like this but it also won't add much.

Look up the business law offerings from each of the schools. See what specific business related centers, clinics, journals, classes, or other programming they offer and mention how excited you are to participate
