Do you agree with Affirmative Action?

Post by tlsadmin3 » Thu Oct 08, 2020 6:31 pm

Affirmative action is the policy of favoring individuals belonging to groups based on their gender race or nationality in education and employment. Currently, affirmative action is banned in ten states: California, Texas, Washington, Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, Arizona, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, and Idaho.Do you agree with affirmative action or not?

In my experience, there are around 3-4 topics that will never, ever reach a resolution. The existence of God (religion in general I guess) is one example, and abortion may be another (though in the future, with increases in technological power, maybe abortion will come off this list).

But affirmative action will always remain on the list. As with religious beliefs, too many people are just too invested in their visceral priors to be susceptive to rational arguments from the other side about things like "merit," "desert," or "equality." There are exceptions (conversions?) but they're rare.

Historically TLS never allowed AA debates in on topics. Now, mods are starting it. Who is this mod?

Megan is a bit of a supermod as an employee of the site owner. If it were anybody else, we'd move it to OT.

I assume it was "Megan", rather than a mod, that deleted my previous post (without a warning or any explanation about it violating the rules) suggesting that the lounge is a better place to post this crap. And it is crap.

So, to be clear, if I have hot takes about affirmative action that would normally be disallowed from this subforum, I can post them in this thread as a safe harbor?
