Submit Updated Fall Transcripts?

Post by plsletmein » Thu Jan 23, 2020 10:31 am

Hi all,

I didn't do as well this past Fall semester as I had hoped-- my GPA ended up suffering from a .04 drop. At some schools I applied to, I'm still above their median GPA, but for my reach school, this knocks me under their median :( (still above 25th, but not sure if that's a reassurance at all). LSAT around median for these schools, if that helps.

Sorry if this has been asked a million times-- I've seen mixed answers, but is it definitely mandatory to send in updated transcripts? If possible, I'd like to avoid doing so until after this spring semester-- that way, I'd be able to (hopefully) see if I could raise my GPA by a bit to offset the drop before sending in my final transcript post-graduation. Will schools hold out on making a decision until I send in the updated fall transcript? Thanks so much for the help!

The ethical thing to do is to send your transcripts to LSAC, so it's sad that you're even thinking about this, and a 0.04 drop is almost never going to be the flaw that breaks your rejection. You can always reapply if you outperform in the spring.

Thanks-- sorry for the ignorance!! I just wasn't sure if sending them in was just done by those who wanted to update schools on their increased GPA, or if this was necessary/common practice. Will do!

To be clear, most schools will eventually require a final transcript. In your case, it really doesn't matter much when you send it.
