Minor C&F -- thoughts?

Post by Sum_Guy » Fri Oct 11, 2019 9:59 pm

Would appreciate any input on what a minor C&F issue in my past is likely to do my law school prospects, and thoughts on how to address it in my applications.

The story: Some 15 years ago, in my mid-20's (yes, I'm a 40+ law school applicant) I got arrested for public intox on campus at my undergrad alma mater, which I was visiting for what is roughly our equivalent to Homecoming. The campus police eventually took me downtown to real jail, and I ended up pleading no contest just to get the hell out of there* -- fine paid via time served. Have had no trouble with the law since then, outside of a speeding ticket here and there.

After a solidly respectable, but unspectacular, white collar career up to this point in my life, I've decided to scratch my itch and finally go to law school. I believe my numbers will give me a shot everywhere. GPA was 3.95 in stem at a top-20 UG school noted for its stem. I'll be taking the LSAT in Oct, and I expect at least, say, a 173 -- my last practice test was a 180 because I finally got my speed where it needs to be on LG, but who knows what'll happen on test day.

My ideal admission situation would probably be CCN with a significant or full merit award.

I had basically forgotten about the unfortunate incarceration incident (as my college friends like to call it) until it hit me on my way to work this morning. I haven't looked at any LS application forms in detail yet, but presumably they for any arrests or convictions, and of course I'll disclose it.

Any input appreciated. Thanks!

*The 30 hours I spent in the drunk tank (they basically lost me in the system - I should've been out in 12) were some of the most fascinating and enlightening of my life. I'd rank it even slightly above my time living in Asia and Europe.

Applications will ask, and unless they put a time limit, you'll have to disclose, but no one will care. Lots of people have one item like this in their past, and yours is so long ago, it won't cause any concern.
