HYS LSAT Addendum

Post by 7Steps » Mon Mar 25, 2019 12:54 pm

Hi everybody,

I know that the addendum question has been discussed ad-nauseum, but I'm having difficulty finding responses for my particular situation. I took the LSAT in February 2016 and recieved a 163; in September 2017, I recieved a 172. I'm planning on applying this fall with an eye towards HYS and softs that are universally considered strong (think several major fellowships, White House staffer, etc.)

During prep for both tests, my PT range was 169-175 and I was legitimately surprised by my first score. I believe that I was may misbubbled but cannot confirm due to the undisclosed nature of the February test. I know that the general consensus is to not write addendums, but my GPA is a 3.89 so I'm definitely not a lock and would like to make sure the 172 doesn't look like a fluke. I'm particularly conscious of this because I'm just below the medians for H and Y.

Thoughts on how to proceed?

Thank you!

Unless you have an actual reason, like undiagnosed learning disability or something, don’t do an addendum. Even if you do, probably still don’t do an addendum. It’s not going to change anyone’s mind, schools only care about the highest, and it only emphasizes a weak part. I had a bigger jump than you, did not do an addendum, and was completely fine.

Agree. Don't do an addendum. I'd only do the addendum if there was something seriously odd, like maybe a 165, followed by a 130, followed by a 168 - the 130 needs to be explained. But going from a 16x first take to a 17x second take is very normal and absolutely, standing alone, does not warrant an addendum.
