2.7 GPA, 165 LSAT - where to apply???

Post by UrsusCasus » Wed Aug 22, 2018 12:50 pm

Hi, all. First time poster with some serious questions.

Long story short, I’m taking the LSAT this September and November with the intention of applying to law school for fall of ‘19. I’ve been out of college for 2 years in sales roles, and am committed to practicing law.

I had a 3.9 GPA up to the middle of my junior year in college, when a traumatic experience basically nosedived me. I finished out with a 2.8~ish GPA in a Marketing major. I’ve been taking practice tests for two months, and consistently get 170-175s.

I live in the Kansas City area, and am planning on applying to UMKC Law (I’d love to practice law in KC and have a good life/support structure here).

What other schools should I be looking at, given my splitter status? Do I even have a shot at getting in? Could I get any scholarship money?

General consensus is that this is all speculation until you have a real LSAT score.

In that range though, you can still get into some decent schools and scholarship money might be available. The issue is that all these schools are regional. Regional employment often looks for local ties. Are your ties only to KS or nearby?

If you can break into the 170s on test day, WUSTL might become available. I'm not sure about Northwestern, since your work experience is still somewhat limited.

Take the LSAT and do everything you can to maximize it. Once you have an actual score, folk will be better placed to offer advice. You really cannot think about what school you might attend until you have that score in hand.

I’m a Kansas native all my life; went to K-State for undergrad.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll try to focus on my actual test.
