Midwest midlaw salaries

Post by purplecow » Tue Jan 23, 2018 7:52 pm

Hi, I've been reading the Illinois threads on here because I have been accepted and am considering attending. How much do the attorneys that don't go into biglaw but go to firms with 25-100 attorneys make? Stating salary vs. partner salaries? It varies I know but what would a realistic range be for places like Chicago, St Louis, Indianapolis, Kansas City? Is it realistic for partners to make $250k+ by mid career?

It could vary a lot. Might have some mid market partner rainmakers making 500k a year in the right niche practice. Brand new partners in insurance defense meanwhile could be at like 125 until the book is built/firm established. But yeah, I think 250k is a fair number if you had to put a number on it.

Starting salary anywhere from 70k to 100k. Not unheard of for a starting salary at a smaller place to be 40-60k, so that should alsondactor into your equation. Mid market firms are really sought after in the midwest.
