No. That poster is making shit up.chewinggum wrote:Is this true? Like cater to ivy schools more than numbers?
There's some evidence that your school pedigree may make a difference on the edges, but most of the "preferential treatment" for ivy grads comes from their higher LSAT/GPA. Better test-takers get in to better schools where they take tests better than other test-takers at other schools, etc. etc.

I've spent a lot of time looking at mylsn data for Stanford and it definitely seems like out of all the non-URM applicants that have borderline median numbers (say, 3.9 and a 170/171), it is always the Ivy or top LAC applicant that manages to get the acceptance. Of course, they may just have a better PS or more impressive ECs.cavalier1138 wrote:No. That poster is making shit up.chewinggum wrote:Is this true? Like cater to ivy schools more than numbers?

Re: CLASS OF 2020 MEDIANS (LSAT/GPA/CLASS SIZE)
I think this is a causation v. correlation point. Coming from an Ivey undergrad only gives you a boost on the very margins. It will not have a substantial impact on your admission chances. You GPA and LSAT will. It may be true that more Ivey students get higher LSAT scores- thus establishing a correlation with high admission rates. However, their Ivey status itself is not the cause of admission.etramak wrote:I've spent a lot of time looking at mylsn data for Stanford and it definitely seems like out of all the non-URM applicants that have borderline median numbers (say, 3.9 and a 170/171), it is always the Ivy or top LAC applicant that manages to get the acceptance. That's actually a pretty solid increase in GPA and LSAT by admissions. Props to the Bama admissions team. I wonder if they get raises.theconsigliere wrote:the spreadsheet for last year says 157/163/165 and 3.45/3.82/3.92 for Alabama last year, with 133 students.abujabal wrote:

Been clicking--nobody is updating. Really interesting how many schools updated by now last year that have not updated this year...looks like most schools have decided to wait until December i guess...

I just deleted them. I think someone was making a prediction. They just copied and pasted the exact same GPA numbers, and 25th and 75th LSAT numbers, and then guessed Columbia would have a 171.Veil of Ignorance wrote:Where are those Columbia numbers coming from?

Re: CLASS OF 2020 MEDIANS (LSAT/GPA/CLASS SIZE)
I was at a Columbia admissions information sessions today and they gave out some literature including the entering class profile.
The number are correct as September 8th 2017.
LSAT 25th: 169
LSAT median: 171
LSAT 75th: 173
LSAT average,(presumably the mean) - 170
GPA - 25th 3.56
Median: 3.7
75th: 3.81
GPA average: 3.67
5829 applicants
Admitted: 20.4%
Total enrolled students: 390

Yes, but the same as the year before actually. So it seems as though the uptick was more anomalous than this drop.Platopus wrote:
