Harvard GRE nervousness
With Harvard's decision to game the us news rankings, this has left me feeling quite worried about my future ability to get into law school. My GPA is not high, a mere 3.75, and while that could go up to 3.8, its not likely and probably wouldn't be enough. However, I am taking the LSAT this June and hope to apply for the next cycle. . I am a little nervous about being a K-JD, but Harvard's decision I am absolutely certain will be followed. If it is my chances for T14 at scholarship plummet, even with a high LSAT score. Is it wrong for me to assume I should get into law school by next cycle?

I care less about Harvard and more about other T14 schools slavishly following their example. It won't happen this year because they need to see if it works out but after that, all bets are off.Clyde Frog wrote:Who cares? Harvard is a sinking ship.

I think you're overreacting. Just do well on the LSAT and apply, you will most likely get in somewhere if you have good numbers.
No one is entirely sure how Harvard taking GRE scores will impact applicants with LSAT scores, we just have to wait and see for this upcoming cycle.
Just chill out, study for the LSAT and rock it.

Right.. H is trying it out this upcoming cycle, which is the same cycle you will be applying. Why does it really matter what they or other top schools do for following cycles if you aren't applying for those cycles..?GoLandcrabs wrote:I care less about Harvard and more about other T14 schools slavishly following their example. I suppose it makes more sense to come back after I apply and everything this cycle since I do that regardless. But it does add an extra layer of stress that I only have the 3 times instead of waiting another year if my fears are true.Mikey wrote:I think you're overreacting. My concern is if I don't rock the LSAT this year and take a year off, which I was already considering regardless of score, but this might remove that option.Mikey wrote:Right.. Re: Harvard GRE nervousness
So I would say, based on my own take, that you should take the GRE instead and see what you get, if H is your first choice (big assumption), because no one knows whether your LSAT will be a factor when you have to submit both.GoLandcrabs wrote:With Harvard's decision to game the us news rankings, this has left me feeling quite worried about my future ability to get into law school. This takes you out of the running for all other schools though so if you don't get into H, you're forced to wait another year.TomLawSchool wrote:So I would say, based on my own take, that you should take the GRE instead and see what you get, if H is your first choice (big assumption), because no one knows whether your LSAT will be a factor when you have to submit both.GoLandcrabs wrote:With Harvard's decision to game the us news rankings, this has left me feeling quite worried about my future ability to get into law school. If you want to go to law school generally, take the LSAT.

Yeah I don't understand how their advice would have helped. I don't expect to get H with LSAT or GRE, and even if so not with scholly, so I am shooting lower than that and definitely need the LSAT.Rigo wrote:This takes you out of the running for all other schools though so if you don't get into H, you're forced to wait another year.TomLawSchool wrote:So I would say, based on my own take, that you should take the GRE instead and see what you get, if H is your first choice (big assumption), because no one knows whether your LSAT will be a factor when you have to submit both.GoLandcrabs wrote:With Harvard's decision to game the us news rankings, this has left me feeling quite worried about my future ability to get into law school. Re: Harvard GRE nervousness
You're running on a LOT of hypotheticals/assumptions right now lol. This is a pilot program for Harvard, they, and other schools for that matter, need to see how well/poorly it does.
Even if it goes great, and other schools begin to follow suit, you don't really know how long it will take for t14s and other law schools to implement these new testing policies. And all of this is assuming the program does well next cycle.
Just focus on getting your GPA up as high as possible, fostering good relationships with your professors for recs, etc. If you are applying next cycle, you still need to take the LSAT anyway, unless you are Harvard or bust which is..not something to bet on.

Ace the LSAT and you should be fine. Sure, if you don't rock the LSAT, then you have a harder time getting in. But Harvard will still need plenty of high LSATs to maintain it's median. I wouldn't be too worried. Focus your energy on maintaining your GPA (improving if possible) and put in the work to rock June.

Re: Harvard GRE nervousness
I understand I need to improve my LSAT/GPA. What I'm asking is, what if, even if I ace it, I don't want to go to law school right away? After next cycle, assuming the GRE fiasco works out for Harvard, I will be in a significantly weaker position then I would be beforehand.

You could just get a job and keep waiting, in that event.

Re: Harvard GRE nervousness
But if the GRE admission fiasco proves good, and an excellent way for T14 to game the rankings, I probably couldn't even crack T14 after that point, let alone with $$$.hdunlop wrote:You could just get a job and keep waiting, in that event.
So it's
1: Don't take a gap year, go K-JD, and likely go T14 with money
2: Don't go K-JD, get screwed by GRE adoption, can't go to T14

you don't even have an lsat score yet, you're not likely into a T14 with money.GoLandcrabs wrote:But if the GRE admission fiasco proves good, and an excellent way for T14 to game the rankings, I probably couldn't even crack T14 after that point, let alone with $$$.hdunlop wrote:You could just get a job and keep waiting, in that event.

Re: Harvard GRE nervousness
We're a long way off from GRE >= LSAT, so I really think this is a non-issue. Get a 175+, and you'll probably get into Harvard with your GPA. You'd certainly get big money from the lower T14[sic], be it this year or next. The bottom should toss you decent money even with a 170.GoLandcrabs wrote:But if the GRE admission fiasco proves good, and an excellent way for T14 to game the rankings, I probably couldn't even crack T14 after that point, let alone with $$$.hdunlop wrote:You could just get a job and keep waiting, in that event.

I don't get this at all. There is no evidence that the GRE thing is going to disadvantage candidates who would have been competitive with the LSAT.GoLandcrabs wrote:But if the GRE admission fiasco proves good, and an excellent way for T14 to game the rankings, I probably couldn't even crack T14 after that point, let alone with $$$.hdunlop wrote:You could just get a job and keep waiting, in that event.

Plus, stop saying Harvard is gaming the rankings.
Plus you don't even have an LSAT score yet so how about you get one before you start talking about how your chances are ruined? You are making a number of unwarranted assumptions.

I suppose it's better to shut this down until I have an LSAT come June (or September if I blow it).Npret wrote:Absolutely.A. Nony Mouse wrote:I don't get this at all.
