Advice on Splitter Friendly Schools Please?
Long story short: I have a shit UGPA because of a severe illness I was diagnosed with shortly before starting college (underwent a few surgeries and it wasn't really alleviated until after I graduated and a new course of treatment for this particular illness came out and miraculously works for me). I wrote an addendum but I'm under no illusion that it will actually make a difference or make schools overlook my 3.0. I was number 3 in my grad school class so hopefully that helps them see it was the illness and not me but I still know my UGPA is hurting me.
Anyway, I have a 170+ lsat score (PM me for the actual score if you want) and am wondering where I should be targeting. I know the T 14 will be a stretch but I'd like to apply to the splitter friendly T 14 schools.
I have read conflicting advice on which schools are splitter friendly. Does anyone have any good advice on T 14 schools I should target?

CLS, NYU, Michigan, Duke, NU, GULC
ETA: CLS and NYU might require to score 174+ or have substantial work experience with a 3.0.

Your best shot is to apply very broadly - blanket the T14 minus HYS, Chicago, and Berkeley. You never know which school might need a high LSAT score in a given year

I've been out of undergrad for almost 7 years, worked for one year in TV production, went to grad school and have worked for Disney in Corporate Marketing for 3 years. Do you think that's enough/substantial work experience to count?dabigchina wrote:CLS, NYU, Michigan, Duke, NU, GULC

I thought uva was Splitter Friendly. Is that not true?

UVA has that rep from several years ago but I didn't get that impression from them at all. Ofc if you early decision them they are very friendly. I wouldnt recommend early decisioning them however.Legallylawyer2020 wrote:I've been out of undergrad for almost 7 years, worked for one year in TV production, went to grad school and have worked for Disney in Corporate Marketing for 3 years. CLS likes finance/professional services work experience. That is a lot of experience though and you stand a decent chance IMO.

Speaking as a splitter this cycle who has been working for 5 years and has a graduate degree....I found UVA to be splitter friendly (and I didn't apply ED).dabigchina wrote:UVA has that rep from several years ago but I didn't get that impression from them at all. With a 3.0, your cycle is going to be unpredictable, long, and probably a bit discouraging. Looking for "splitter-friendly" T14s isn't the way to go, really - you need to apply almost everywhere! Maybe you get 5 acceptances, or maybe you only get one. You can skip HYSChiB, but should try to apply to all the others. I also skipped Cornell and GULC, because I wouldn't attend either and wasn't going to get much money for leverage from them, but not applying to them probably wasn't the smartest choice I made this cycle - one of them could have been my only acceptance.

UVA is generally splitter friendly but it usually requires you to ED saying that you would commit to them.

UVA is splitter-friendly, but they do not "require" an ED application from splitters. Stop spreading nonsense.

Why every time I respond to something you reply to it. I was speaking to the OP not you. I was giving my opinion from the past cycle when I applied before I went to go get my Masters. If you have something to say to the OP speak to them not me. Last time I checked you aren't a moderator so when they tell me I said something wrong then I will stand corrected. Not by someone who is just going through this cycle. Now back to the OP, I was speaking from when I applied back in 2014 cycle before I chose to get my Masters first that UVA seemed to reach for people who ED I wasn't advising you to do so.cavalier1138 wrote:No.Incrementalist wrote:UVA is generally splitter friendly but it usually requires you to ED saying that you would commit to them.

Just in case there's any confusion about how public fora work:Incrementalist wrote:Why every time I respond to something you reply to it. I was speaking to the OP not you. You posted a general piece of advice on a public forum. You did not couch it as "This was my highly personalized experience from one cycle a few years ago." You made a general assertion. I attacked your general assertion as not being true, which is known in many circles as the process of "argument" or "debate". My argument was directed at the OP, you, and any other readers of the post, because your post was made on a public forum. So when you post general assertions, don't get pissy just because someone disagrees with you. If you think you're right, then respond with some kind of argument, not a hissy fit.
Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming. One person's cycle from 2-3 years ago is not indicative of wider trends, and there's no indication that UVA only favors splitters during the ED portion of the cycle. EDing to any school without a guaranteed scholarship is a bad decision.
And as for targeting you, I have no idea why you think that. I have literally no idea who you are, and a brief glance at your post history shows that I have directly replied to a grand total of one (1) of your prior posts.

Re: Advice on Splitter Friendly Schools Please?
Are you done because you are becoming quite juvenile and honestly it's really annoying. I simply said respond to the OP not me. They posed the question. I didn't. They were seeking advice not me. And again until you become a moderator or work UVA admissions board I don't need validation from you. You are in the same boat I am. Trying to get into school. And FYI someone else mentioned UVA and EDing as well but you choose to respond and attack my opinion just like you did before on a prior post. So since this is my last response to you do me a favor and don't respond to anything I say. Because i will no longer give you any type of shine you seek on a thread. Have a good day. And good luck on your cycle.cavalier1138 wrote:Just in case there's any confusion about how public fora work:Incrementalist wrote:Why every time I respond to something you reply to it. Re: Advice on Splitter Friendly Schools Please?
Calm down folks. Historically getting into UVA as a splitter was difficult unless you applied ED or were a Virginia resident. That may have changed over the last few years as applications declined.
Northwestern, NYU and GULC are three of the better bets. But as others have said splitter cycles can be pretty unpredictable so get those fee waivers and apply broadly. You'll likely end up on a lot of waitlists, but you're far from doomed with a 3.0/170+

Re: Advice on Splitter Friendly Schools Please?
When it comes to splitters, a 3.0 is actually pretty decent. Others have mentioned these schools, but depending where you fall on the 170+ scale, NU, GULC, UVA are definitely in play. You can even get into other typically non-splitter friendly T14s. There's even an outside shot at NYU/Columbia.
Put together a strong application with a coherent narrative, and you'll probably get in somewhere good.
