Hold Advice

Post by legaljargon29 » Mon Nov 28, 2016 9:54 pm

I got an email today that my application would be put on hold until February. What is the best course of action for me to follow? Is this better or worse than a WL?

Depends on the school, but my understanding of a hold is that you generally need to submit more materials in order to turn it into an acceptance.

A quick Google search (because I was curious about the difference too) led me to a couple sites:

https://blueprintlsat.com/lsatblog/law- ... -the-hold/ -- this one explains what it is then gives some advice on what you should be doing. Basically says WL is they've decided already and chose someone over you whereas hold is they're undecided and are giving you a chance to wow them. So, based on this, to answer your last question: It's better than WL.

http://www.annaivey.com/iveyfiles/2012/ ... _waitlists -- kind of says the same thing as the above link. Says a hold is basically a non-decision and a way of telling you something while also telling you nothing because they really just want more time to review your app. Also says holds basically turn into being on WL after the first deposit deadline hits (if you're left on hold that long).
