Why X Essays

Post by bagelofthedamnd » Fri Nov 18, 2016 1:34 am

I have 168 LSAT and 3.7 GPA and was planning to blanket the T-16 with applications. I’m between 25th and 50th percentile for most of those schools so I was thinking about sending Why X essays. Which schools would it be worthwhile to send them to? Everywhere?

It's only worth sending them to the schools that you really want to go to. But if you send "Why X" essays to every school, I guarantee that your essay will be so generic that it won't provide the already-minimal bump that it could.

Another option is to tailor a small bit of your personal statement to each school. The last paragraph of each of mine tied to the school. While this isn't something you have to do, I just thought it was helpful to concisely get my point across. Doing a ton of why x essays felt a bit contrived to me, one page worth of stuff can sometimes be forced.
