Optional Addendum Forum

A school I'm applying to (and a top choice of mine) only asks for a personal statement but allows applicants to add an other files that we might think is important. Would it be too much to give them a diversity statement and a Why X essay? The optional essays total to about 1.7 pages

If you think your diversity statement is really outstanding and adds depth into your application and reveals something about yourself, yes. Otherwise no.
