172 is a really good score. If you really feel like you can get a higher score though, then go for it. schools only care about your highest anyways

Depends on your goals. If you want HYS, then yes. If you want money at CCN, then yes.
If you want money at a lower T14, then no real point in a retake.

Depends on your goals I suppose. Also on your GPA/URM status.
If your GPA is below the 25th percentile for your target school (meaning, you're a splitter), I can see a case to be made for trying to get above that school's 75th. That said, a 172 is above most schools' 75ths so, unless you're gunning HYS, you're probably only going to see marginal improvement (if any) from a retake.
So, tl;dr, if you're a non-URM splitter who still has HYS aspirations. Yes. Otherwise, no.
Cheers!

Re: Retake on a 172?
No. Once you're solidly above the 75th percentile for a school, there's no real difference in scholarship offers. The only exception would be if you wanted to leverage an admission/scholarship at HYSCCN against a lower T14 school, in which case the higher score affects the HYSCCN offers.Alive97 wrote:Interesting, I might not know the math behind how they get their medians, I would have thought the higher the score the better for money prospects. I am a splitter. So going further above the 75th for like Penn - GULC probably wouldn't be much of a money benefit?
