Do I need CAS before I start getting LORs?
Do I need to purchase the CAS on LSAC.org before I can start accumulating letters of rec in my LSAC account? I was expecting a letter to show up for a while now but so far it says "0 of 1 letters received." Did my recommender just forget or did I need to purchase the CAS for it to show? I'm not applying for a while. Thanks!

You don't need to purchase CAS. Send a courtesy reminder to your recommenders!
