Hey everyone,
I wanted to gain some insight from this community about retaking undergraduate classes.
I was originally a Biochemistry major when I first started college, but a few factors led me to pursue a Political Science and Philosophy double major and law school instead.
To make a long story short, I didn’t perform as well as I would have liked in a few of my classes when I was a Biochemistry major, so I would like to know if retaking those classes to boost my undergraduate GPA is a possibility?
What is LSAC’s policy of retaking classes? Do they analyze both the old and new grade, or do they analyze one over the other? If the latter, does retaking these classes help boost admission chances with law schools?
Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my question!

Both your old grade and your new one get factored into your LSAC GPA.popejoshua wrote:What is LSAC’s policy of retaking classes? This may be the first time that "retake" is NOT TCR.

Re: Retaking Undergraduate Classes?
I retook a couple of hard classes from freshman year and I think it was a mistake to do so. Just take different ones. LSAC will count both if you retake anyways. For example, I got an F in a calculus class freshman year and then took it again junior year and got a B. Although my school only counts the higher grade, LSAC will count both. If you don't need that class for your major. Take another class that you are interested in that is easier.popejoshua wrote:Hey everyone,

+1; I dual enrolled into a local CC to take easy/interesting online classes as GPA boosters. Every grade (including repeats), at all undergrad schools up until your bachelor's degree is conferred, will count towards the LSAC calculation.Nachoo2019 wrote:I retook a couple of hard classes from freshman year and I think it was a mistake to do so. The one exception to this would be if your college removes the first grade from your transcript after you retake and finish the course. LSAC can't count what they don't see on a transcript. However, few colleges have this policy and most list both takes on the transcript with a notation that the second is a retake (like an 'R' next to your second attempt grade to note the retake) in which case LSAC will count both grades because they can see both grades.
