C&F: Driving with expired registration
I just got cited for driving my father's car with an expired registration. Is this something I need to report to the school I am accepted to? Will this kind of thing jeopardize my acceptance? I have no other C&F issues, and haven't had a traffic violation before.
I wasn't speeding, running stops signs or anything, it's purely a citation for the registration problem.

When in doubt, disclose. They will have absolutely no issue with this at all. Also, it usually describes in the application if they want minor traffic tickets or not.UGAhopeful wrote:I just got cited for driving my father's car with an expired registration. Re: C&F: Driving with expired registration
People have been admitted to law school after being convicted for murder. I'm not an expert in C&F issues by any means, but this sounds about as minor as it can get. You'll have to read the questions for law school applications and the bar closely, but I doubt you would have to report this for schools and possibly not for the bar (many applications exclude "minor traffic violations"). Even if you did have to disclose it, it doesn't seem like an issue to any reasonable person.

Just to put in to context I had to disclose 2 misdemeanor alcohol charges(i got them at the same time) that was dismissed after a diversion program and I am still on a full ride to the school I wanted to go to. you have nothing to worry about

Thanks for that. Do I just email the dean? Assistant dean? Should I bother explaining the full story? Do I need to include the actual citation sheet?

You probably do need to disclose, but it's not a big deal. Better safe than sorry.

I could be wrong, but this seeks like something I would not disclose. It's like getting a parking ticket, the law school doesn't need to know about it.UGAhopeful wrote:kwabedi wrote:Just to put in to context I had to disclose 2 misdemeanor alcohol charges(i got them at the same time) that was dismissed after a diversion program and I am still on a full ride to the school I wanted to go to. you have nothing to worry about

There was 1, literally 1, out of the 15 schools I applied to that asked for EVERYTHING. Including minor parking tickets. That is the only reason I say he might have to disclose. There's a good chance they do not have to discloseusernotfound wrote:I could be wrong, but this seeks like something I would not disclose. Yeah, but in OP's situation it seems like he's already been accepted. If this was me I would not bring it up. His application was truthful at the time of submission, and I don't think he would have a duty to disclose something so minor. Correct me if I'm wrong.kwabedi wrote:There was 1, literally 1, out of the 15 schools I applied to that asked for EVERYTHING. Including minor parking tickets. Re: C&F: Driving with expired registration
Great thought, I just went back to the LSAC and brought up the application. The citation amount is well below the threshold where I would need to disclose it on the application, so would that mean that I would not need to notify the school, because my answers to the application questions would be the same today as when I filled out the application originally?usernotfound wrote:I could be wrong, but this seeks like something I would not disclose. Re: C&F: Driving with expired registration
I just think it's too minor in general to disclose post-acceptance, but I think that information certainly helps in coming to that conclusion. Generally, people say disclose because you're better safe than sorry, but this just irks me. If I was the dean of admissions and got an email to the effect of "I just got X minor infraction," I would think "uh, okay? I don't care because this isn't going to change my opinion of this prospective student or affect their admissions status."UGAhopeful wrote:Great thought, I just went back to the LSAC and brought up the application. I would argue that this is less severe than a parking ticket, because you don't own the car and shouldn't reasonably be expected to check the registration status of the vehicle. When you're parking, you have at least some duty to visually observe the immediate area for signs or indications that would put you on notice to rules or regulations.

Thanks for all your help, my only comment on this is that (with all due respect) I care more about what a dean will think, than what they should think.Generally, people say disclose because you're better safe than sorry, but this just irks me. If I was the dean of admissions and got an email to the effect of "I just got X minor infraction," I would think "uh, okay? I don't care because this isn't going to change my opinion of this prospective student or affect their admissions status."
Right now I'm leaning toward not disclosing, based on these responses and a close reading the application statement and questions. If someone comes along and reads this and thinks "no, disclose!" please post your reason and I'll shoot the dean an email.
