Need-Based Aid at Georgetown

Post by whatislife95 » Tue Apr 12, 2016 4:45 pm

Hi all,

I just want to know realistically how much need-based aid I can expect to receive from GULC. I received 20k in merit aid from them already so what are my prospects of receiving need-based aid? I'm going straight through (read: I'm flat broke) but my parents make around 120k (all of which goes to the bills). EFC from my folks will be like a couple hundred. What are my chances of getting a decent amount of need-based aid? If there's anyone who is/was in a similar situation, please let me know!

GULC gives very little need based aid. My parents make 70% of what yours do, and I got nothing. Only merit aid.

You're gonna get pretty much no need-based aid. Also, I'd think very, very hard before going to GULC with 20k (whether that's 20k total or 20k/year).

It would be 20k per year, meaning I would have to pay 35k per year for just tuition. So you don't think this is worth it? Even given GULC's T-14 status, location, etc.?

Even with the 20k per year, you're looking at almost 200k of debt. I would think long and hard about whether that amount of debt is worth it to you for ANY school, let alone GULC.

If I recall correctly, GULC need-based aid only replaces merit aid, it doesn't add on to it. So if you got 20k in need-based aid your total aid would still be 20k, not 40k.
