Dual deposits possible?
Hello,
Is it possible to put deposits in two schools?
I know that there are some schools that explicitly inform that dual deposits are not allowed, but is it okay to put dual deposits if not explicitly written?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Dual deposits possible?
I have the same question. I was admitted to 3 schools, 2 of which I am interested in and which require a nonrefundable $500 seat deposit by May 1.
Only problem is I applied to 13 schools, and I have not received a response from 10 of them. Not accepted, not denied, not waitlisted. Nothing. I'm not even "In Review" yet at some of these schools. I didn't take the time and effort to fill out applications (writing unique individual Personal Statements and essays for each one) and spend $1000+ application fees to all these other schools just for the fun of it, certainly not to be forced to make a decision before I've even received replies from all my school applications.
At the very least I would like to know my full options in negotiating more scholly money from the schools I was admitted to, but I have no idea what I'm going to get.
Still a month to go so I'm remaining optimistic, but I'm feeling nervous and anxious at this point. I don't want to lose out on these 2 schools, but I would like to have all my options on the table before making a final commitment. (Also I would need to hear back before like the very last day of April if I want to negotiate scholarship money before committing.)

Re: Dual deposits possible?
Well I looked it up on LSAC.
LSAC Statement of Good Admission Practices (PDF)
However I've read that LSAC sends "Overlap Reports" to the schools on May 15 regarding those who have made multiple deposits. I don't know if I would then get calls from the schools insisting I commit to one or the other. I would hopefully(!) have heard back from all my schools before freaking mid-May so I would be able to negotiate/withdraw/commit before then. But ugh, why couldn't it at least have been June 1 when many schools require their final totally-committed "second deposit".
LSAC Statement of Good Admission Practices (PDF)
Neither of my schools that require a May 1 deposit mention anything forbidding dual-deposits.Commitments
A commitment is defined as an affirmative step taken by an
applicant (e.g., submitting a seat deposit or an enrollment form)
to indicate their intention to matriculate at an institution.
Member law schools should:
•
state clearly the policies and processes for submitting a
commitment and holding a commitment and, if applicable,
their policies regarding admitted students who may violate
a commitment agreement, including any possible
consequences that may result from holding multiple
commitments simultaneously;
•
request commitments of any kind only from admitted
applicants no earlier than April 1, except under binding
early decision plans or for academic terms beginning in
the spring or summer;
•
allow applicants to freely accept a new offer from a law
school even though a scholarship has been accepted, a
deposit has been paid, or a commitment has been made to
another school;
•
provide financial aid awards to admitted students who
have submitted a timely financial aid application, before
requesting any commitment; and
•
report and update a student’s commitment accurately and
in a timely manner.

Re: Dual deposits possible?
Some schools do not allow you to keep a scholarship offer AND do a dual deposit. Double-check the specific rules for the schools and scholarships you're considering. When in doubt, just send an email.

Re: Dual deposits possible?
In my case the 2 schools I was admitted to and am considering (out of 13 applications, 10 of which I have not heard back from argh!!!) both just offered me basic merit scholarships, no special named scholarship or anything like that.lamimi wrote:Some schools do not allow you to keep a scholarship offer AND do a dual deposit. I've googled both schools and their enrollment deposit deadlines and neither mention anything forbidding dual-deposits. The annoying thing is one of the schools continues to accept rolling applications after their deadline (and after the May 1 deposit deadline!) which means I could have feasibly waited to apply there and probably gotten the same offer.

This would be a great question for the Mike Spivey thread. I'm sure he has some insight.
