Hey guys. It would be cool if we could make a forum where people leave sample withdrawal letters as guides for newer 0ls. I've seen some but it would be great to consolidate them.

I was thinking of writing the following:

"Dear Law School that Did-Not-Make-The-Cut,

I regret to inform you, after careful consideration of the shiny faces of students on the front of your admissions leaflets, I will be unable to attend your school this year.

Please do not feel like this decision is a personal judgment of your expertise. I expect over 5,000 offers from some very accomplished law schools, and in these astonishing circumstances, I have to make some tough choices.

I hope you understand that this decison is no indication of your ability teach law to other students. (Although if you were any better at your job, you would be teaching the law to me...).

I wish you great luck and fortune attempting to teach law to a class of what I can only assume will be people dumber than me. Accept my sincerest wishes in the most insincere way.

Just use common sense and write a polite, professional and to the point email.

Thank them for their offer (consideration if they haven't gotten back to you yet/waitlist), tell them that you've chosen a different school (name the school if you've picked - they will probably ask) and then close with your name. You're not breaking up with a significant other, they expect people to withdraw.

It's not necessary but it is helpful to many of us who are waitlisted to receive our decision sooner!

If you are on a waitlist or waiting to hear from a school, ask yourself if you would rather the folks that are accepted and not planning on going write a letter or not. Sending an email costs nothing, and it's courteous to people in your exact same situation.
