Hope so! Good for Mich
For the lazy:

For the lazy:
Law: The top schools were unchanged in the law rankings, with Yale Law School at No. 1. Harvard Law School and Stanford Law School tied for No. 2, just as they did last year. However, Duke University and the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor traded places, with Michigan moving up to a tie for No. 8 and Duke dropping to No. 11.
Further down the list, Boston University moved up six spots, from a tie at No. 26 to a tie at No. 20.
Urban schools remained at the top of the part-time law program rankings. Georgetown University in the District of Columbia ranked No. 1. New York's Fordham University was No. 2, and the District's George Washington University was third.
The University of Houston jumped into the top 10, where it tied with three other schools for No. 6. Last year, it was tied for No. 11. Marquette University fell to No. 42 after tying for No. 17 in last year's rankings.

I don't see how Michigan could go up. At 10th, it's already ranked too highly, imo.

Do we know if these are the only changes throughout the T-14?Biglaw1990 wrote:I'm surprised that Michigan and Duke swapped places.James.K.Polk wrote:Hope so! Good for Mich

Also, does anyone understand why some schools move up and others don't despite lower ranked schools having the better employment statistics? Mich fell way behind in their nlj 100 employment for the year (especially when compared to Duke at # 5), and while this isn't an end all be all, it seems like most other T-14s other than Gtwn have been outperforming them somewhat considerably in firm placement. And I get that some schools have a slightly more PI bent, I just don't see how this can remotely compensate for their poor performance in firm hiring.

Are you actually trying to make sense of the us news rankings?

Lols, good point. I mean why would placement within the sector that employs the most law school graduates have anything to do with law school ranking? The real matters of absolute importance are things like library volume sizes and how cool the degree can look in a frame.urbanist11 wrote:Are you actually trying to make sense of the us news rankings?

Re: US News 2017
Assuming that last year's methodology is more or less the same, keep in mind that 40% of the rankings are based off of subjective responses (25% from 'peer assessment' - law school deans and profs; 15% practicing attorneys/judges).
No way to know unless each individual ballot were released, but it wouldn't be surprising if a school like Mich, which has undergone somewhat of a generational transformation wrt its place among preftigious lawl schools, was actually ranked #8 by comparatively few people. IMO what we may be seeing is a result of a binary ranking input, composed of old big law partners/judges who rank Mich up with Columbia/Chicago and new, younger ppl who place Mich more in line with NW/Cornell.
also none of this matters

I agree 100% with this. I really don't see how Michigan can be ranked ahead of Duke or how Duke can take that drop.mornincounselor wrote:I don't see how Michigan could go up. At 10th, it's already ranked too highly, imo.

Duke maintained its LSAT median, while UVA's dropped to 168. If anything, UVA should drop.BillClinton Jr wrote:I agree 100% with this. Re: US News 2017
Given how hard schools fight to keep their medians the only thing in the rankings that changes significantly on a year to year basis is probably employment numbers. Mich was ranked 11th last year with 82% employment score via LST they made the biggest jump in the t14 and got to 90.
My guess is the reputational stuff carries Mich a lot as far as the rankings go and they just had to keep their employment numbers above Georgetown territory to stay in the above Duke.
