Dismissed from OTS, Honorable Discharge Forum

Hey guys,

This post relates to military experience and military folks. Thank you all for your service to our country. I'm not claiming to be a veteran and I'm not claiming any kind of veteran status or benefits with my application or anywhere else.

I attended Air Force OTS from July to October 2015 hoping to become a Combat Systems Officer. However, just before graduation I was accused of viewing "sexually charged" material on my personal computer because I looked at The Chive. I was dismissed from OTS and was given an honorable discharge.

In my applications to law schools, I'm being completely honest and upfront about what happened. I've been reading about OTH discharges and what impact they can have on applications, but I want to know will my discharge hurt me? I'd be happy to go into detail through PM.

I'm assuming OTS is the Air Force's equivalent to the Army's OCS.

That being said, I think people need a little more information before we can say how bad it was. Did you receive an Article 15 or a GOMOR? What sort of records are there of your offensive and subsequent discipline?

However, the big picture is that you got an honorable discharge, which is really all that matters. I don't even know if there is any need to disclose anything given that most apps just ask if you received anything other than an honorable discharge (of course depending on what sort of disciplinary measures you got).

However, that outcome seems strange to me if you weren't enlisted prior to making the switch to officer. From what I've seen I don't think that you'd qualify for an honorable discharge if you were going straight from civilian to OTS. I know if you're in the army and get separated during basic training then you would most likely get a Failure to Adapt discharge or something like that, which basically isn't good or bad. You get benefits with an honorable discharge, including the GI Bill if you have any disability. No offense, but if you only did a 9 week training program and then were dismissed, I don't think you exactly earned an honorable discharge.

Just looked at my Form 214 (Air Force discharge record). It says honorable, separation code KHD (other) and under narrative reason its failure to complete commissioning program.

The reason I asked is that UVA Law is asking whether you've ever gotten any kind of reprimand or punishment from any kind of school, including professional schools. I'm not sure if I should include this.

Found this white dealing with a bar application and it really pissed me off because its 1) insanely arrogant and 2) wrong. Check out this guy's post history for the definition of a TLS clinger.
