How much can high LSAT make up for low-ish GPA?

Post by numbersloth » Tue Feb 23, 2016 8:23 pm

I'm a non-URM with a 178 LSAT. I'm still in school but I'll probably finished with a GPA around 3.7, 3.8 if everything goes perfectly. How much can LSAT balance out a mediocre GPA? I have funds to pay full, if that matters, and decent softs.

Thank!

I had similar situation this cycle. You'll get in NYU and Columbia most likely. HYS are long shots unless there's something else real special on your resume. Then there's a few schools that keep high GPA medians where you're basically a 50/50 splitter like Penn and Chicago. Bottom of t14 you should get big money.

WTF?! Why in heaven's name is a 3.7 GPA low-ish? That's like being the NCAA 100m champ and thinking you're slow just because you can't beat Usain Bolt. Get a grip dude.

And sloth, you have a 178 LSAT with a great GPA. You will get in CCN down I'd say you have about even odds at H and a puncher's chance at Y and S. Provided you don't do something stupid, you're going to win the law school admissions game.

But before you do any of that, I suggest you get a grip and some perspective. Why in the world would you consider a 3.7 GPA mediocre?

Seconding this. A 3.7 is an A- average. Granted, that's not an A, but that's still a consistent 90% in all your classes. That's not low.

nah you'll never go to law school with only a .37. Abandon all hope ye who post here. Didn't even know they gave grades so low....

Oh what's that? a 3.7/3.8? This is a post to brag about how you're going to Harvard? Cool. Pls leave and use that brain to look at resources (like LSN linked above) before wasting everyone's time.

I enjoyed this. Thank you K. Anyway, I think we've been had, friends. OP has been a ghost since he started this thread.
