Besides curing cancer & herpes, what else can i do
Hey,
So.. My LSAC gap is in the 2's, besides scoring a 186, curing cancer & AIDS, and being the youngest supreme court nominee all in the same week, how screwed am I for a T-14. My addendum will explain it all but realistically should i just give up the dream?

How low in the 2s?
How long have you been out of undergrad?
What have you been doing?
What did you study?
You haven't taken the LSAT once yet?
Why do you want to go to law school?

Pretested 160, actual test 153. Graduated in May and moved home to help family. GPA was on a strong upward trend, but started college at 17 and didn't take educational life seriously until.. well it was too late. Law just makes sense and I see it as a way of survival for me and my family, knowing what our rights are. Other than, was on a Top 50 uni. mock trial team, also lobbied in UG. Looking to retake in June.. just wanted opinionsWinter is Coming wrote:How low in the 2s?

Do you have any idea of what type of law/where you want to practice?
People with high 2.x GPAs get into some of the lower T14, but you'll have to improve your LSAT a lot.

If you look at http://www.lawschoolnumbers.com you can see the profiles of people who have been accepted to T14s with 2.X GPAs. http://www.mylsn.info can be helpful for assessing your chances as well.
Based on this and your numbers I wouldn't go to law school, I would find something else to do. It's just not going to be worth it financially and it doesn't sound like you have a real reason to spend all that time/money on something that isn't going to be worth it.SooLost wrote:Law just makes sense and I see it as a way of survival for me and my family, knowing what our rights are.

2.58 I finally settled on basically doubling in communications and pre-law with a minor in poli-sci. I want to litigate criminally and am strongly interested in advocacy. I'm thinking east coast.. but really the highest ranked school i can attend is where i'm at with it.

I would hesitate to write a GPA addendum unless you had a serious medical or personal issue (e.g. you got cancer, or depression, or a family member passed away). Just saying you didn't take school seriously isn't a good excuse. Lots of people start college at age 17.SooLost wrote:Pretested 160, actual test 153. Graduated in May and moved home to help family. Obviously isn't the main reason i'm basing my wanting to go to law school off. But thanks for your inputBigZuck wrote: Based on this and your numbers I wouldn't go to law school, I would find something else to do. Single mom & two siblings with special needs and had to work to help out, school kind of came as a second thought.cranburial wrote:I would hesitate to write a GPA addendum unless you had a serious medical or personal issue (e.g. you got cancer, or depression, or a family member passed away). Honestly, it is tremendously unlikely.
I see two people on mylsn with less than 2.6 GPA who got into t14 (Northwestern). One of the accounts I believe is either entirely fictitious or an unlabeled URM student. The other one may be real (in at sticker) but they probably are non-traditional with great work experience. They both also scored above 170 on the LSAT.
If you can improve to the high 160's on the LSAT you should have some scholarships to some fantastic (strong regional) schools.

So if i was a URM, there's a chance.. in your opinion?

I really have not researched URM admissions at all, but here's the mylsn for URM students.
http://mylsn.info/5qw8w6/
Note: This is every URM applicant who reported their data online between 2.0 - 2.6 GPA and between 150-180 LSAT. Again, I think even as a URM applicant and even if you significantly improve your LSAT it is still highly unlikely to get into the t14.

I don't think you're going to have much success becoming a URM if you haven't been previously in life, but even if that were true, being a URM is not going to help that GPA. Adcomms are far less forgiving on GPA than on LSAT.
