Supplementing LORs?

Post by periwinkley » Tue Feb 16, 2016 3:02 pm

I got put on Duke's Priority Reserve and got a third recommendation letter from a professor. Would it be helpful if I sent it to all the other schools I already applied to, but haven't heard back from? Or would it look sloppy?

Definitely send it to Duke (and other schools you got wailisted).

For schools that you haven't heard back, it depends on the current strength of your application. Factors to consider: Does this rec add anything new to your app or just repeat what may have been mentioned? Does it explain any weakness in your app? How many schools you got in so far with your current app? If you got waitlisted/rejected at schools where your numbers should be competitive, it may indicate your app needs a boost.

But be sure to check schools' policies on sending additional materials. Some just don't like it.

Fellow 0L, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the response!

I've only heard back from one other school and that was my local university--a safety school. I'm actually not sure what the letter says, but I think it should be fairly positive as it comes from my senior capstone professor.

I have an LSAT>Duke's 75th but a GPA b/w its 25th and 50th, and I got PR'd from that, so I'm trying to anticipate what the response will be going forward.

Editing to add: I was going to send in an updated resume since I recently started working at a law firm, so would it be a good time to just add on another LOR?
