Post by engineerlawyer1000 » Tue Feb 09, 2016 9:43 pm

When do I need to do the FAFSA stuff? Could someone please give a run down on what needs to be done and when?

FAFSA needs to be completed pretty soon, I'd do your tax return in the next few days to get this started. Most schools have priority deadlines for need based aid between 2/25-3/5. I recommend doing it ASAP.

Go to http://wwww.fafsa.gov and just fill out the form. Each school is different when it comes to requiring your parents' information or not. If you are 24+ (by Dec 31, 2016) you generally won't need it, but I'd check with the FAQ's on each school's website that you anticipate giving a hard look to

Do you think there's any potential harm to including parent info if you are an independent student? I'm 26 and wondering whether I should include it - I've heard conflicting opinions. Is it true that it can't actually harm you even if your parents make good money, since it's understood that they won't be contributing financially?
