In what world is 4.1/174 a stretch for Yale? If I were you, given your interests, I'd go straight through to law school and aim for HYS.

don't defer for a year though. lurk harder there's plenty of advice on here about why that's a bad idea.

Don't apply as a junior, wait until next year. You're going to be fine with a 4.0+ and a 174 as a URM, any anxiety is unfounded. And by fine I mean you will get in anywhere. Keep you GPA up and apply early next cycle and have fun deciding between a CCN full ride or HYS, you rat bastard.

the first couple posts in a nutshell. i would caveat it though with the fact that some schools are known for being more deferral friendly particularly for a KJD (harvard). even then, your numbers are still going to be competitive if you just wait a cycle. and you will be able to speak to that WE you're planning on gaining in your app and you will have time to build another solid connection to write that third LOR. not that it matters with your numbers bc like nagster said, you will get in everywhere.
