Military Veteran Struggling to find appropriate target range of schools

Post by JTN1234 » Mon Jan 11, 2016 8:00 pm

I will be applying to law school for the class of 2017 and have recently gotten my LSAT score back, but I don't know how to determine which schools that I should apply to given my unusual stats and background:
LSAT:165
UGPA: 2.34 BS from US Naval Academy (2010) in Political Science
Soft Factors: Combat veteran, Captain in the Marine Corps, Infantry Officer, enlisted in the Marines prior to being accepted to the academy.

I am also a widower, which doesn't seem relevant other than it is an (obviously awful) experience that my peers are unlikely to have dealt with.

Any help in targeting schools would be greatly appreciated. I am not tied down geographically in any way, and biglaw is my #1 choice but with a 165 I don't know if that is realistic. I am also interested in constitutional law. Thanks again!

It is advised to research schools you are interested in applying to and comparing their admission statistics with your GPA and score you provided. Since you state that you are open to relocation, this will definitely expand your options.
An admission committee looks at the applicant as a whole which includes reviewing their personal statement, supplemental application, GPA, LSAT scores, and letters of recommendation. You may also contact schools you are interested in applying to and asking what they advise. If your GPA is considered low for a specific school you are interested in attending, you may always re-take a class or enroll in additional classes to increase your GPA before applying.
Best of luck!

If he graduated from Navy and is looking at law school his GPA has been locked for several years.

I am applying this cycle with with a 2.69 in Economics from Purdue University (2010) and LSAT of 165.
Former enlisted Air Force with zero combat experience and I have gotten into several top 50 schools with scholarship offers. Feel free to send me a message if have questions.
