New job and applying to law school
I'm currently in the late stages of interviewing for a new job and have also recently submitted several law school applications. I retook the LSAT in December and am not sure whether or not I plan on attending this year due to the late applications. If I get a decent scholarship offer from one of the schools I've applied to I want to attend. I'm curious if anyone else has ever been in a similar situation? Basically if I took the job and later decided to attend school I would need to quit about 6 months after starting the new job. I'm not sure whether I should pass on the new job and see how the cycle goes or take it in case I decide not to attend this year. This is a corporate position at a F500 company so not the same type of turnover you'd see in a retail type job, etc. I'd appreciate anyone else's thoughts.

If you do get the job offer, take it.

This and consider staying a year or two, or never going to law school.ihenry wrote:If you do get the job offer, take it.

What I would not do is commit to the job with a plan to attend law school This year if you get a good LS offer later. The options of a job and LS with a decent scholarship are both reasonable.

Don't listen to this nonsensical advice. Always take the job.Alive97 wrote:What I would not do is commit to the job with a plan to attend law school This year if you get a good LS offer later. The options of a job and LS with a decent scholarship are both reasonable.

Agreed. The only guarantee about law school is debt. Employment outcomes are still up in the air and dependent largely upon first year law grades. If you land a job, take it. Law school will always be here if you decide to later become a lawyer. And your work experience will only make you more attractive to better law schools and legal employers.Danger Zone wrote:Don't listen to this nonsensical advice. Keep in mind that blanket assertions about law school for you specifically without knowing any details are personal opinions

No one has ever said "I wish I started law school a year earlier!"Alive97 wrote:Keep in mind that blanket assertions about law school for you specifically without knowing any details are personal opinions.
Many have regretted having no work experience. Or just regretted law school period.

There may be a misunderstanding here because OP may have applied to LS in 2013. Either way, I don't think you know enough about OP to make that blanket statement.

Re: New job and applying to law school
I am in a similar but different situation. I am currently serving active duty in the military. I applied to several schools in October and my end of enlistment is in February. I recently received a job offer at a large company and will be taking it. I will only hold the job, however, for about 6 months. I still have a mortgage and family to feed, so it is a necessity. Why would you pass on the job? Take it, if you get in a law school you want, then quit and attend.jk28 wrote:I'm currently in the late stages of interviewing for a new job and have also recently submitted several law school applications.
