Diversity Statement Length?

Post by Neethusree » Mon Dec 28, 2015 1:27 pm

Hi all!

New to posting on TLS but have looked through threads quite a bit. Quick q - how long do you guys think diversity statements should be?

From a quick google search, it seems like most people limit it to one page double spaced, 12 pt TNR. I'll be the first in my fam (nuclear and extended) to attend law school, so sadly I have few people to ask for advice - when I wrote mine, I only paid attention to app requirements and most T14s (minus NW, please correct me if I'm wrong) didn't specify 1 page double spaced.

TL;DR: do you guys think a 2 page double spaced diversity statement is OK? Or should I just shorten it to 1 pg to be safe?

Yes I know this is a nitpicky question... sorry... I'm at the height of anxiety right now waiting on my dec LSAT score.

If you are able to shorten it to 1 page without losing the effect/message, then 2 pages is completely unnecessary. If the school doesn't specify length, I think it would be safe to assume no more than 2 pages, but closer to 1 would likely be preferable for those who have to read it. There are likely some things you can cut out to make it closer to 1.5 or so, but I know cutting down 2 pages of substance to 1 is difficult. I don't think 1.5 will hurt you, but others may have different thoughts.
