I could use some advice about submitting an LSAT addendum.
I'm halfway through submitting applications (I've already applied to NYU and Columbia among others). I have a 171 LSAT and a 3.8x GPA so I should be fairly competitive. However, before taking the LSAT last year, I took it another time and made a 162 (due to being unprepared/getting over a fever). So my main question is for which schools in the top 10 would I need to submit an LSAT addendum explaining the score difference? Is it worth sending in an addendum after the rest of the application is submitted? Most of the schools recommend sending in an addendum with a significant score disparity - would 9 points count? I'm also particularly concerned about NYU which, although TLS seems to disagree, states that they average LSAT scores.

Re: LSAT Addendum Question
Nyu doesn't average scores, period. Also I had a bigger disparity and didn't write any addenda for any school. I'd say only write if you have a meaningful excuse. In this case it's pretty clear you didn't study and then you did. No need to write an essay explaining it.

Right, and you got in. Just like I did without the addendum. The point is it's the score that matters.lunixer wrote:I agree re NYU doesn't average.Clearly wrote:Nyu doesn't average scores, period. However I disagree with the rest of it.
My scores were 165->170->178. Last year I got into NYU and Duke off the wait list with the 170. This year I put an addenda on my apps. All I said was something like I studied hard and that's how I approach academics. I didn't want to leave an enormous glaring hole that would leave them scratching their heads and not even address it.

Re: LSAT Addendum Question
There is nothing in any way mysterious about a 165-170-178 score history and nobody on any adcomm is going to give it a second thought.
