I have been accepted to my top choice under a binding early decision. Do I now just send an email to the Office of Admissions for all the other schools I have applied to, in order to let them know. Also, since I have already sent in my non-refundable deposit and fully intend to go to this school is it really even necessary to get in touch with all these other schools or will the school likely find out.

Hypo 1: You do nothing. Over the next few months, the other schools may accept you. You do nothing and miss their seat deposit deadlines (likely in Mid-April) causing adcomms to waste their time since you had no intention of attending. This will also remove your application from the pile of admits. This will open up spots for WL applicants.

Hypo 2: You do nothing. In your Binding ED agreement, you agree to withdraw all other applications within a certain time frame. You do not do this. You get offer rescinded for not following your contractual obligation.

Hypo 3: You email admissions. It takes 2 minutes per email. They withdraw your application from the pile. The WL applicant who gets your spot in April (in hypo 1) now gets your spot before April, and you don't have to worry about anything until your top choice emails you with further information about visiting the school, scholarship, matriculation requirements, etc.

Just send them an email asking to be withdrawn from consideration. You don't have to give them any reason, but be polite about it, obviously.

Well I did it. It just felt so wrong to say no to a few schools who gave me great scholarship offers, but I suppose its what must be done.
