GPA Calculation from Canada

Post by CountryLawyer » Sun Dec 13, 2015 7:53 pm

Hello all and thank you for having me on the forum!

I know that different universities calculate their grades differently especially for the purposes of GPA.

I have a number of A+s on my transcript and I am wondering how LSAC will count them. I understand that an A+ is a 4.33 on the 4 point GPA scale according to LSAC, but will they have a different percentage requirement in order to count a grade as an A+?

For me any grade I get above 90 here in Canada counts as an A+ and is on the highest grade point possible for my university, will this transfer to LSAC? Getting anything above 90 is definitely not easy and it is common for undergraduate programs to have an average somewhere in the mid 60s. What is it like in the USA?

LSAC doesn't care what percentage is used for different grades. I also attended a Canadian university and some of my courses required a 95% for an A+ and others only required 90%. All of my A+'s regardless of the course were translated to a 4.33 on LSAC.

That being said, I'm not sure what would happen if your transcript has both your letter grade and your percentage grade, my university only had the letter grade on the transcript.

Good luck with your applications!

Ok thanks but I'm still a bit worried, I'm fairly sure my university records the percentage but am 100% sure on the letter grade, won't they just look at the letter grade?

LSAC will use your letter grade.

OK Fantastic!

I was just worried because I saw that just the year I started my uni started recording the % in addition to letter grade but now I know they will just look at the letter grade :D

Thanks for the info!

Best of luck!

Who calculates your Canadian undergrad for US Law schools? What's the process?

Is it OLSAS and then to LSAC? I'm so confused.

And do Canadians get a boost?

F'n worst case Ontario always has to have their own bureaucratic quagmire for everything. Maybe that explains why they have twice the debt of commiefornia with one third the population and no sovereignty to speak of to deal with.

Just had to vent a bit, and give you a Canadian perspective eh 8)

Oh believe me I know, its so far gone it should just be named its own -Stan. Quebekerstan has a nice ring I think. Somehow managed to get less debt, maybe because it is better at unloading it all on the feds.
