Re: Apply to lower T-14 and top 20s Now or...?

If I were you, I would wait until next cycle to apply. As a splitter, you're going to have a much better cycle if you apply early on. Besides, this will give you the opportunity to retake in June or October if your LSAT isn't where you want it to be.

Edit: apply to more than just the lower T14 as well. With an LSAT in the 170's and a GPA over 3.0 you have a chance at getting into more schools than just G-town.

I should have mentioned this in my original explanation. I would have to sit out two cycles since this is my third retake. Would your advice be the same after hearing this?
In that case I would go ahead and apply now. If you don't get in to any schools you want to attend at a reasonable cost then you could always retake.

Just apply and see what happens. Odds are extremely low that your file would even be reviewed before the score came in anyway with the Christmas break coming up. If the $300 in report fees, etc. is a hardship for you, I would ask what your current scores are. (And suggest perhaps narrowing down the number of schools you apply to.)

At the end of the day, because of the break, there is very little benefit in applying Dec. 14 compared to Jan. 4 in my opinion. Perhaps big benefit applying ED in September/October to certain schools. Definitely benefit in applying Jan. 4 compared to Feb. 4, so in that sense you'd be fine waiting if that's what you wanted to do.

At the end of the day, I think this is a decision many students spend way too much time worrying about relative to it's impact on admissions outcomes. At some point you gotta throw your hat into the ring and see what happens. Gotta be in it to win it.
