University of Chicago Addendum

Post by waterlogged72 » Thu Dec 03, 2015 5:58 pm

I am currently applying to University of Chicago, which does not offer a diversity statement/supplemental statement option. I have significant hearing loss, which has not visibly impacted my GPA, LSAT or any other aspect of my application but I do believe it is a defining factor in my life. However, my personal statement is on another significant experience in my life that I believe better demonstrates my potential success as a law student. My question is should I include an addendum about my hearing loss to provide more context about who I am?

I'm sure you've already reviewed UChicago's FAQ section on personal statements.

There it is asked
May I submit a diversity statement or “Why UChicago” essay?

You may, but please do so only when they are important to your application. Please remember that you want to be concise and genuine.
If you can meet those criteria, I'd do it, as long as your main PS is showing a different, interesting part of yourself. I think that lots of people who apply to law school are just boring people from suburbia without much of a point of view going to law school cause that's what's next. Their experiences are boring and they're boring. Doing a diversity statement for them is bad judgment.

Maybe you're different.
