Schools asking about your other applications

Post by Cochran » Thu Dec 03, 2015 1:13 am

I have noticed that a few apps include a question asking you to list the other schools you plan on applying to. Do you all recommend completing this, or do you recommend leaving it blank? I try to answer everything in its entirety, but I don't want a list of my other applications to have any bearing on my acceptance to the school requesting the information (via yield protect, biases, ect.).

I left it blank for any that asked. Has zero impact, imo.

If memory serves this was briefly discussed in the Spivey thread. I seem to recall that they felt that providing the information was unlikely to have significant impact on your application.

It's market research. They want to know who their competitors are - not to weigh in your application, but to be able to refine their pitches to prospective applicants. You certainly don't have to answer if you don't want to, but a school is going to want you or not, regardless of where else you're applying (concerns about yield protect are going to be based on your statistics, not your aspirations).

Thanks for the replies everyone. I just left it blank to be safe, but now I see how this is likely a non-factor and over analysis on my end lol. Appreciate the input!
