Application Timing Quandry

Post by Dishydiana » Tue Nov 24, 2015 3:18 pm

Hello All,

Is it better to send applications off in December, with 2 letters of recommendation (1 academic :1 professional), or in January, with 3 letters (2 academic:1)? As an alternative, I could probably get another professional rec and file in December (1 academic : 2 professh).

I'm trying to maximize my chances of getting $ to a T14 school. My numbers are 174 | 3.79

Much appreciated,

D. D.

Unless the third letter is adding something significant to your application (highly doubtful), send in Dec. There's a good chance the letter will be submitted in time to be considered anyway.

ETA: Your numbers are good enough that you will certainly get money from at least a few T14 schools, an extra recommendation will make little to no difference.

Many schools will only take two anyways. Just send two, and then the third if you get waitlisted. I think sending earlier adds more than not.
