Does your cousin ever donate a non-nominal amount of money? If yes, list them. If no, don't bother.

"My cousin went there (and I have considered no other factors so this entire essay is about my cousin)" would be a bad essay. Obviously.

You should still consider referencing alums in your essay. Second-hand knowledge can support your assertions about the school and/or improve the readability of your essay.

I used personal connections to talk about "fit" and make my assertions about intangible factors like teaching quality seem credible. (I couldn't visit.)

If it doesn't help or it makes your essay worse, don't include it.
